Important IT system upgrade
We’re carrying out an important upgrade to our systems to improve the services we provide to our members. Access to online systems and contact points, including MyRCGP and the member helpdesk, are temporarily unavailable with a gradual restoration of services from Tuesday 16 December.
Please be aware that during this time, you won’t be able to log in to your membership account, update your profile, or access event, exam booking or eLearning.
After the upgrade, you will be asked to change your password the first time you log in.
We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Who are we and how do we differ from other organisations?
Publication date: 05 September 2025
Now you have accepted your GP training place, it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with the various organisations you will be in contact with during your training programme. It can be a bit confusing figuring out who does what, which is why we have created this guide, to help you understand their different roles and who to contact for information and support.
We, the RCGP, are the professional membership body for over 54,000 GPs across the UK. We set the GP curriculum, including what must be recorded in your Training Portfolio and the exams (AKT and SCA) and Workplace Based Assessment (WPBA) which lead to the MRCGP qualification.
Your deanery is responsible for the delivery and assessment of your training. Their focus is at a local level on logistics e.g. placements, supervision and registrar progress.
For more information on the differences between organisations please visit the who's who guide.
Thank you for your feedback. Your response will help improve this page.
