Introduction to GPwER in renal health

Purpose of this framework

This framework provides guidance for GPs who identify with providing or an ambition to fulfil a role, beyond that expected of every GP, in renal health. A GP may already have a special interest in renal (kidney) health or developed an interest before becoming a GP. Alternatively, they may want to vary their career and expand their portfolio to offer these additional skills in a strategic role beyond their own clinical practice.

It is recognised that there may be variations of this role, designed around local health population needs, and any key differences between roles will be described in the relevant section.  Therefore, this framework does not seek to establish a rigid uniform model, rather it offers guidance around good practice in such a way that we hope is practically helpful and universally relevant.

For a place to discuss extended roles in Renal health, please see the RCGP forum.
