Active Bystander Training

Witnessing verbal and physical abuse, discrimination, racism and micro-aggression effects everyone! Have you ever been in a situation where you want to challenge someone’s behaviour - but you didn’t know how to do it or what to say? This session has been developed to support ALL members of the Primary Care Team. It includes self-coaching techniques to help you keep a cool head when you’re faced with a challenging situation, and assertive language devices which you can use to make sure your voice is heard if you want to raise a concern. The session focuses on challenging inappropriate workplace behaviours from patients and colleagues and will give you the tools needed to be able to do this confidently.

What is coaching, and what does it offer GPs? Heather Shearer has a PhD in Psychology and has been a Senior Practitioner with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, working with GPs for over five years. This interactive, discussion-based Learn and Connect will explore what coaching is and is not and how it might help GPs and GP registrars from across Angus, North Fife, Perth, and Tayside in their day-to-day work.
