RCGP welcomes expanded RSV vaccine offer for vulnerable adults

Professor Victoria Tzortziou Brown, President of the Royal College of GPs, said:

“Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause serious illness in older people and those with underlying health conditions, such as pneumonia or chronic asthma,  so this expansion of the vaccination programme is very welcome.

“Vaccines are one of the most effective ways we have to protect patients from serious illness and reduce avoidable hospital admissions, particularly during winter when respiratory infections place significant pressure on the NHS.

“GPs and our teams already play a key role in delivering vaccination programmes in communities across the country, and we would encourage anyone who is eligible for the expanded RSV vaccine programme to come forward when invited.”
