RCGP Cymru Wales welcomes Welsh Government commitment to becoming the world’s first ‘Marmot Nation’

RCGP Cymru Wales warmly welcomes the Welsh Government’s commitment to making Wales the world’s first Marmot Nation, underlining a serious and sustained effort to tackle health inequalities at their root.

We are particularly encouraged by the clear emphasis on cross-government departmental working, a vital recognition that the most significant determinants of health lie beyond the walls of our clinics and hospitals. Action on education, housing, transport, employment, and the environment is essential if we are to create the conditions in which people can live longer, healthier lives.

As the professional body representing GPs in Wales, we know that general practice sees first-hand the impact of inequality every day. We look forward to working with the Welsh Government and partners across all sectors to help drive this work forward and ensure that primary care is a key voice in shaping a healthier, fairer Wales.
