RCGP Scotland welcomes publication of Service Renewal and Population Health Frameworks

Commenting on the publication of the Service Renewal Framework and Population Health Framework, RCGP Scotland Chair Dr Chris Provan said:

"RCGP Scotland welcomes the publication of the Service Renewal Framework and Population Health Framework by the Scottish Government, and the high level, strategic policy direction that it sets for Scotland’s health and social care services.

"For too long, general practice in Scotland has endured systematic and cultural neglect, leaving GPs feeling undervalued and working under unsustainable pressure.

“It is my sincere hope that this marks a turning point. As a College, we champion the emphasis on preventive health, improving health equity, caring for people in their communities, and integrated systems. This could be the pathway to a more resilient healthcare system, preserved for future generations.

“The proof will be in the implementation. Those working on the frontline of primary care have heard warm words before. What is needed now is a bold shift of funding and comprehensive planning at all levels to deliver on these ambitions.

"RCGP Scotland stands ready to work constructively with the Scottish Government to ensure these documents translate into real improvements for patients. A stabilised and empowered general practice, working to its maximum potential, must be the starting point for any meaningful healthcare reform.

"General practice is the solution to the NHS crisis."
