Past and present RCGP leaders unite behind five commitments for NHS reform

Nineteen current and former Presidents and Chairs of the Royal College of General Practitioners have come together to call for strong general practice to be central in the next phase of NHS reform. 

In a joint open letter, spanning generations of College leadership, they argue that the changes now taking place across the health service present a unique opportunity to build a stronger and more sustainable NHS. They set out the conditions they believe will help make that ambition a reality including strong, sustainable, general practice and a voice for clinical leaders at every level. 

The signatories set out five commitments they believe should guide reform: building change on evidence; strengthening clinical leadership; matching investment to ambition; targeting resources where health need is greatest; and creating a health service that continually learns from research, innovation and data.
