North East Scotland Faculty
Welcome from North East Scotland Faculty, we are a group of volunteer RCGP Members who work closely with our other partner organisations; NHS Grampian, University of Aberdeen, Health and Social Care Partnerships, LMC and GP Sub Committee. We currently support over 630 members and their GP practice staff by providing educational and social events throughout the year. The Faculty have various awards and bursaries available to local members in recognition of excellent practice and new initiatives.

Ian Murray Scott Lecture 2024
Professor Sir Michael Marmot travels to Aberdeen to update local members on health inequalities and to help celebrate Faculty contributions to general practice across Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. Open to students, trainees, GPs of all career stages - this is an excellent opportunity to engage with your local Faculty and connect with fellow professionals. A trainer's guide to the SCA: case examples and exam preparation
Join us for the first of a two-part series of FREE webinars on the SCA exam. This informative webinar introduces the SCA exam and is led by esteemed professionals Dr Roger Neighbour, Dr Robin Simpson and Dr Jim Bartlett. With extensive experience as examiners and facilitators of successful SCA prep courses for the RCGP, they bring a wealth of knowledge to guide you through this crucial examination.

Research & Surveillance Centre: Developing research & surveillance capabilities
This short session invites all general practice staff to learn more about the Oxford-RCGP Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC). As we enter the winter season the work of the RSC becomes ever more important in detecting communicable diseases in your local community. The presenters will delve into the latest RSC initiatives, discuss updates to the research programme, and showcase the RSC’s achievements.

Child & adult safeguarding: level 3 | Online
This RCGP Level 3 safeguarding course is for any GP practising in England. As GPs, we care for both children and adults and the course reflects this, covering child and adult safeguarding topics – individually and jointly. The course will be based around practical considerations for busy frontline GPs. There will be plenty of time for questions throughout the day. CPD Points: includes 4 hours of child safeguarding and 4 hours of adult safeguarding.

A group of First5 GPs meet regularly in the city for social and educational events. If you are interested in attending these events, or are new to the area and would like to make contact with the group, then please contact Dr Douglas Naismith.
Awards and prizes
We organise several awards and prizes each year in recognition of the hard work and dedication of those working in general practice locally:
- The Provost Medal, awarded for the provision of leadership and excellence within the North East Scotland Faculty, was presented to Dr Ruby Watt at the Ian Murray Scott Lecture 2023
- The Denis Durno Award, awarded for recognition of distinguished work in the field of Medical Education in General Practice within the North East Scotland Faculty, was presented to Dr Elizabeth Barr at the Ian Murray Scott Lecture 2023
- The Innovation Award, awarded to recognise outstanding contribution to and leadership of General Practice within North East Scotland Faculty, was presented to River Dee Medical Group at the Ian Murray Scott Lecture 2023
- The Sir Lewis Ritchie Award, awarded for the highest combined score of AKT and SCA Exams in the North East Scotland Faculty region, was presented to Dr Harriet Turner at the Ian Murray Scott Lecture 2023
