About

Each RCGP Faculty is represented by a Faculty Board which is made up of a number of dedicated members who work voluntarily towards the College's vision, purpose and priority goals.

The Faculty Board comprises of a number of different roles reflecting the needs of the Faculty; members can also join the Board, without needing to volunteer for a specific role, simply to listen and be heard.

Joining your local Faculty Board is a rewarding way to represent fellow GPs, help shape primary care in your region, and guide the direction of the College. Below, you will find detailed role descriptions outlining the key responsibilities, time commitments, and eligibility criteria for each position. Whether you are looking to step into a leadership role or contribute as a lay member, explore the profiles to find the right opportunity for your experience and interests.


Leadership Faculty Board roles

These are experienced and dedicated Faculty members who guide and lead the Faculty. They are instrumental in recognising and celebrating the success of members, including awarding Fellowship, being a leading voice in local issues and developing a programme of activities.

The leadership roles are available for those members who have already been engaging with their Faculty Boards. They are for a three year term and are made up of a dedicated team who help guide and shape the overall Faculty activity. Click on the links to download the full role description.

Faculty Chair 

Provides leadership to the Faculty Board, chairing meetings and overseeing the creation of an inclusive activity plan. Act as a spokesperson and liaison between Faculty and RCGP strategic teams.

Provost

Ambassadorial and ceremonial head of the Faculty, overseeing local Fellowship and Awards programme.

Vice Chair Member Engagement

Champions active engagement from all members into the Faculty activity plan and supports the Faculty to engage with local, external networks.

Vice Chair Member Value

Champions value to members through use of Faculty funds as well as transparent and inclusive local governance procedures.

Faculty UK Council Representative

Champions engagement of members with College policy and represents the Faculty at RCGP UK Council. Larger Faculties have two reps on Council, due to the number of members being represented.

Deputy UK Council Representative

Supports the Faculty UK Council representative to engage members with College policy and deputises at RCGP UK Council.

Other Faculty roles

We have roles available for representatives lead roles at each career stage; GP Registrar Lead, First5 Lead, Established GP Lead and Later Career and Retired Members (LCARM) Lead and the terms are for one year, though this is currently under review. Many Faculties also operate with informal career stages groups whereby it is possible to act as a career stage rep on the Faculty and support the Lead to deliver activities.

Our community representatives support important strategic College priorities including an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lead, International Medical Graduates (IMG) lead and Climate and Sustainability Lead. These roles are also a one year term, but this is currently under review.

There are national groups for all four of the main career stage and three main community groups, and the Faculty Leads will also meet as a national group to feedback and progress the College’s national agenda. Read the Faculty Career stage or Community Lead role description for more information.

GP Registrar Lead

Provides a voice to GPs in training, both locally and nationally, and improves the experience of our GP Registrar members.

First5 Lead

Provides a voice to members who are in their first five years after CCT, both locally and nationally, and improves the experience of our First5 members.

Established GP Lead

Provides a voice to Established GP members, both locally and nationally, and improves the experience of our Established GP Representatives.

LCARM Lead

Provides a voice to Later Career and Retired Members (LCARM), both locally and nationally, and improves the experience of our LCARM members.

EDI Lead

Provides an advisory voice in the Faculty Board on issues with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and actively promotes engagement and involvement of EDI initiatives.

Climate and Sustainability Lead

Provides leadership on sustainable healthcare and disseminates national and RCGP initiatives relating to climate and planetary health.

IMG Lead

Provides a voice to members who completed their medical training overseas and are now completing GP training or practicing in the UK.
