The Practice Level Support (PLS) programme is delivered in partnership with NHS England, and provides tailored, hands-on improvement support designed to enhance patient care, efficiency, and practice efficiencies . Through weekly face-to-face sessions and group-based learning, our facilitators work directly with your practice team to plan, implement, and sustain meaningful improvements in access, workflow, and patient experience.

Our expert advisers can help:

  • Optimise patient access and streaming to the most appropriate care
  • Make full use of the multi-professional team
  • Improve operational efficiency and workflow
  • Enhance patient experience
  • Build in-house capability for ongoing quality improvement

PLS helps address the increasing demand and complexity in general practice, supporting teams to reduce pressure, improve navigation, and deliver more effective, patient-centred care. The programme supports practices to adopt the principles of the Modern General Practice (MGP) and align with NHS priorities.

With years of primary care experience, RCGP is one of five nationally selected NHS England delivery partners for PLS. Our facilitators bring deep knowledge of quality improvement and general practice operations, enabling teams to embed sustainable change. Individual practices have reported tangible results, including:

  • 25% increase in face-to-face appointments within six months
  • Doubling of self-referrals in five months for improved patient navigation
  • Reducing staff workload and preventing GP burnout

Practices value the programme for its practical impact and expert guidance:

“Prior to PLS the overwhelm feeling I had has now gone!” – GP Partner, Leicester

“Having you to facilitate the change was invaluable… better uptake from GPs to drive the trials and change.” – Practice Manager, Norfolk

“We overhauled our prescription process - it was a surprise how many emails we were receiving daily.” – Practice Manager, HIOW 2024-25

PLS combines structured support, peer-led expertise, and actionable improvement plans to help practices thrive, reduce pressure on staff, and deliver high-quality, sustainable patient care.
