Practice accreditation, certification and quality improvement

The RCGP practice accreditation, certification and quality improvement (QI) programmes help practices and primary care teams deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. Using evidence-based tools, guidance, and educational resources, our programmes strengthen clinical skills, optimise workflows, and support sustainable improvements that benefit patients, staff, and the wider healthcare system.

Our GP practice initiatives are important as they provide:

  • Practical, evidence-based guidance for improving patient care
  • Recognition for delivering high standards and support to embed continuous improvement
  • Opportunities to learn from peers and share best practice
  • Improvements in workflow efficiency, clinical outcomes, and patient experience

By engaging in an accreditation, practices demonstrate excellence while building long-term capability and stronger, more resilient primary care teams.

Net Zero hub

Primary care accounts for approximately ~23% of NHS England’s emissions footprint; most are associated with prescribing, but emissions also come from non-clinical sources such as travel and energy use. Our Net Zero hub provides free resources, including learning modules written by GPs and a general practice decarbonisation guide, designed to help reduce carbon emissions, improve efficiency and identify cost savings
