About us
A warm welcome from the Tamar Faculty. We support over 1,250 members, Fellows, Associates and GP Registrars throughout the Devon and Cornwall area. One of our main priorities is to engage with all members, especially new members. Here you can find out more about what we offer and how you can get involved.
Get involved
Our diverse group holds four board meetings a year to discuss a range of topics surrounding general practice and what further support could be offered to GPs at all stages of their career. These are either held online or in person.
One of the aims of our meetings is to gain grassroots views on issues of motions to present to the national RCGP Council.
You are welcome to attend these board meetings as an observer or join the board yourself through our annual elections process. Just get in touch if you would like to attend or visit our Faculties page to find out more information about Faculty Boards.
Fellowship
Fellowship is an honour and a mark of achievement recognising a significant contribution to health and welfare of the community, science or practice of medicine, and/or aims of RCGP, or any organisation which benefits general practice.
It is an opportunity to take pride in your achievements and to receive recognition from your peers and your professional body. You will become part of a community of fellows, with the potential opportunities that brings.
It is now available by self-nomination and there is no longer a fee to pay. You will need two supporters, one of whom is a current member or fellow and only one can be a current practice colleague.
The Faculty actively encourages its members of 5 years plus standing to consider putting themselves forward for Fellowship. It is designed to be attainable and reward achievement across the full spectrum of GP activites.
We have a Faculty Fellowship Committee (FFC) within the Faculty, led by Dr David Hopes, Chair of the Faculty Fellowship Committee. The FFC can offer advice and support through the Tamar Faculty office.
If you are unsure about any part of Fellowship or want to know more about the process please contact the Tamar Faculty for more information.
If you need some inspiration to apply, this recent BJGP article gives a personal view of the benefits.
Full details of applying for Fellowship can be found at RCGP Fellowship.

Meet your faculty
Your faculty board has been voted by members to represent and support local interests. We are a friendly group made up of a range of careers stages and backgrounds. Through this mixed experience we bring everyone together so that a broad range of voices is represented. We also like to socialise and meet up – you are welcome to come to our next board meeting to meet us, or look out for the next social event. We would love to see you there.
