About us

Welcome from East Scotland Faculty. We are a group of volunteer RCGP members who provide local networking, education and support for members in the area. We cover Dundee, Angus, Perthshire and North Fife, supporting over 500 RCGP members and their peers.  

In addition to supporting local members and initiatives, we have representation on RCGP Scottish Council which develops and takes forward strategy for RCGP Scotland.

Get involved

The East Scotland Faculty Board are a group of volunteers who have been elected by members to represent and support local interests. Find out which Board roles are currently available in your Faculty.

Our group holds four board meetings a year, three online and one in-person in Dundee, to discuss a range of topics surrounding general practice and what further support could be offered to GPs at all stages of their career.

The group work together to support local networking, education and member engagement, while representing the views of general practice in the East Scotland region at RCGP Scottish Council and RCGP UK Council. 

You are welcome to attend these Board meetings as an observer or join the Faculty Board yourself through our annual elections process. Just get in touch escotland@rcgp.org.uk if you would like to attend.

Board meetings

We meet four times per year, in March, June, September and November to progress our local engagement activities and discuss issues pertinent to our members, which are then fed back to the College Council. All local members are very welcome to attend Board meetings and participate in these discussions and we are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us develop our local engagement programme.

The 2026 Faculty Board meetings are scheduled to take place online on:

• Thursday 3 September 2026 – Dundee
• Thursday 12 November 2026 – online

Awards and prizes

Each year we recognise outstanding members working in our Faculty. We have annual prizes to support our student members, and also a range of Recognition Awards which we present at our celebration event, the John Lawson Annual Lecture. • The John Lawson Award is awarded to a final year student for excellence in general practice. The 2026 prize was awarded to Abed Mosleh.
• The Art of Rural General Practice Award is awarded to a S3/D5 student whose piece of submitted creative work is judged to best capture the essence of rural general practice. The 2026 prize was awarded to Mairead MacSween.
• 4th Year Merit Prize Award is awarded to the outstanding student for excellence in 4th year GP attachment. The 2025 prize was awarded to Lewis Doyle.
• Community Engagement Project Prize is awarded to a S3 student who has demonstrated exceptional community engagement to the reputational benefit of ScotGEM Programme. The 2025 prize was awarded to Heather Sherriffs.
• The Provost Medal romotes quality and excellence by recognising the outstanding achievements of an individual GP in the East Scotland Faculty area. Dr Gordon McLeay is the winner of the 2026 Provost Medal.
• Faculty General Practice Education Award for distinguished work in the field of medical education, recognises GP educationalists who have ‘gone the extra mile’ to deliver high quality personal teaching to young doctors preparing for careers in general practice. Dr Rebecca Forrester is the winner of the 2026 Faculty Education Award.

RCGP Fellowship

If you've been a member of the College for five years or more, we encourage you to consider applying for Fellowship – the College's highest membership grade. 

Fellowship is a mark of distinction, awarded in recognition of significant contributions to medicine, particularly within general practice. It recognises your commitment to the profession and the impact you have made throughout your career. 

There is no fee to apply, and applications are submitted through a straightforward online process. Full details on eligibility and the application process can be found on the RCGP Fellowship webpage.
