Thames Valley Faculty

A warm welcome from Thames Valley Faculty. We are a group of volunteer RCGP members who provide local networking, education and support for members in the area. We cover Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, supporting around 2200 Members, Fellows, Associates and Associates in Training. As a Faculty, we have a particular interest in supporting our members' CPD and professional development and provide a range of education courses, all tailored to local needs.

Next board meeting

Our next Board Meeting will take place at 7pm on 9 February 2022. It will be held virtually, via Zoom. We meet four times per year, in February, June, September and November to progress our local engagement activities and discuss issues pertinent to our members, which are then fed back to the College Council. All members of the Faculty are invited to attend Board meetings - please contact us for more information and to express interest in attending.

Next AGM

The Thames Valley Faculty AGM and dinner is a complimentary event, open to all Thames Valley Faculty Members.

If you are interested in setting up a CPD group in another area of the Faculty we’d be happy to provide advice and support - please contact the Faculty Office.

Work Experience Programme

October 2021

How do we promote our rich and varied profession to school students - particularly those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and other under-represented groups? This has been the question considered recently by the Thames Valley Faculty Board who, in collaboration with the Student Engagement Officers at central College, have developed a plan to encourage young people locally to think about medicine and specifically, general practice as a career. Dr Ian Wood, our Honorary Treasurer and one of our First5 reps, has worked hard to draw up a plan of action. Our first successful pilot programme, run in February 2020, saw eight Year 12 students from some of the most deprived areas of Oxford paired with local practices for a week's work experience followed by a tailored workshop run by the Faculty. If you or your Practice would like to get involved, do get in touch.
