About us
Welcome Republic of Ireland Faculty. We support over 300 members, Fellows and Associates across the Republic of Ireland. The Faculty has a particular interest in supporting our members' CPD and professional development and provide a range of educational meetings, tailored to local needs, as well as bursaries and awards to support and recognise innovation and development.
Get involved
The Republic of Ireland Faculty Board is made up of local GP volunteers and a student representative. These members have been elected to represent and support local interests. Find out which Board roles are currently available in your Faculty.
The Board meets four times a year, online, to progress our local engagement activities and to discuss issues pertinent to our members, which are then fed back to College Council.

Winter meeting and dinner
The Republic of Ireland Faculty Winter meeting and dinner will take place on Saturday 5 December 2026 at the Stephens Green Club, 9 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2. Register your interest: roi@rcgp.org.uk.
Spring Meeting
The Republic of Ireland Faculty Spring Meeting took place on Saturday 18 April 2026 at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, Dublin.
Speakers included:
- “From Gastroenterology to death, dying and longevity” - Dr Seamus O'Mahony, Gastroenterologist and author
- “Dying in Ireland- can we do better? A view from General Practice” - Dr Brendan O'Shea, GP and Asst Adj. Professor at Trinity College Dublin
- Plus the Final of the all island clinical cases presentation competition (undergraduate medical student competition) with Kimara Naidoo and Amritha Ramachandran, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland v's Alex Stewart and Treasa Moloney, University of Limerick

Sheppard Memorial Essay Competition 2026
This essay competition is open to all undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors who are within five years of completing general practice training. The opening date for entries is Monday 24 August and the closing date is Friday 23 October 2026.

Clinical Cases Presentation Competition 2027
The importance of engaging with undergraduate students in medical schools is acknowledged in terms of developing the discipline of general practice, and in terms of assisting undergraduate medical students in their key career decisions.
Such engagement facilitates greater casual contact between medical undergraduates, GP Trainees, Academic GPs and established GP Principals. It is part of the solution to the otherwise somewhat one-sided exposure students experience with our Specialist colleagues, given the extent to which the majority of undergraduate training is still based in hospitals, with much teaching delivered by Specialists, and Specialist Trainees from other Disciplines.
Clinical case presentations are useful as learning exercises, both for the individuals undertaking them, and also for those who listen to them, and who contribute to the ensuing discussions. To get involved please contact your medical school. The final of the Clinical Cases Prizes Competition will be held at the Republic of Ireland Faculty Spring Meeting 2027.

This SCA preparation course is designed to help ST3s who are preparing to sit their SCA examination. The day will involve our lead facilitator showing you how to structure and manage your consultations to give you the best possible chance of success in the SCA exam.

AKT Preparation Course
This one-day interactive course has been designed for those planning to take the AKT component of the MRCGP. It will assist with your exam preparation and revision for the MRCGP AKT examination, focusing on high yield and difficult curriculum topics, including the topics trainees often forget to include in their revision and help with your exam technique.
