Welcome from Republic of Ireland Faculty, we are a group of volunteer RCGP members who provide local networking, education and support for members in the area. The Faculty supports almost 500 members, Fellows and Associates across the Republic of Ireland. The Faculty has a particular interest in supporting our members' CPD and professional development and provide a range of educational meetings, tailored to local needs, as well as bursaries and awards to support and recognise innovation and development.

Research & Surveillance Centre: Developing research & surveillance capabilities

This short session invites all general practice staff to learn more about the Oxford-RCGP Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC). As we enter the winter season the work of the RSC becomes ever more important in detecting communicable diseases in your local community. The presenters will delve into the latest RSC initiatives, discuss updates to the research programme, and showcase the RSC’s achievements.

A trainer's guide to the SCA: case examples and exam preparation

Join us for the first of a two-part series of FREE webinars on the SCA exam. This informative webinar introduces the SCA exam and is led by esteemed professionals Dr Roger Neighbour, Dr Robin Simpson and Dr Jim Bartlett. With extensive experience as examiners and facilitators of successful SCA prep courses for the RCGP, they bring a wealth of knowledge to guide you through this crucial examination.

Child & adult safeguarding: level 3 | Online

This RCGP Level 3 safeguarding course is for any GP practising in England. As GPs, we care for both children and adults and the course reflects this, covering child and adult safeguarding topics – individually and jointly. The course will be based around practical considerations for busy frontline GPs. There will be plenty of time for questions throughout the day. CPD Points: includes 4 hours of child safeguarding and 4 hours of adult safeguarding.

The RCGP 1-day SCA preparation course

This open to all one-day training course aims to improve your consultation skills and as a result pass your SCA. The course offers interactive sessions with experienced trainers and examiners.

Board meetings

We meet four times per year in February, June, September and December to progress our local engagement activities and discuss issues pertinent to our members, which are then fed back to College Council. Our next Board Meeting and AGM will take place online on:

The Republic of Ireland Winter meeting and dinner will take place on Saturday 7 December 2024 at the Stephens Green Club, 9 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2.

Clinical Cases Presentation Competition 2024

Congratulations to Pavithra Chempakanalloor and Sarah Cherepacha, University College Cork, winners of this Clinical Cases Presentation Competition 2024 with their outstanding presentation on ‘A Common Condition with a Rare Complication’.

Finalists: Nyka Riego and Madeline Haines, Trinity College Dublin and Pavithra Chempakanalloor and Sarah Cherepacha, University College Cork presented at the Clinical Cases Presentation Competition Final at the Republic of Ireland Faculty Spring Meeting at Queen's University Belfast in April 2024.

Sheppard Memorial Essay Competition 2024

This essay competition is open to all undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors who are within five years of completing general practice training. The opening date for entries is Monday 26 August 2024.
