This RCGP course is a refresher aimed at GPs who are already experienced in providing skin minor surgery, this educational activity is considered to be of high quality and relevant for general practitioners CPD Revalidation needs. Minor Surgical Skills June 2019

The North and West London Faculty are running an interactive theory and practice course designed to prepare those new to these skills to undertake minor surgical procedures. The course is also ideal for those already performing procedures who need to update or refresh their knowledge and skills. The course meets the DoH requirement (2014 DES minor surgery contract) for formal assessment of competency by the inclusion of Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) assessments during practical skills sessions. Learners will view videos demonstrations and undertake minor surgical skills under tutor guidance and observation. Small group work question and answer sessions illustrated presentations and practice kits skin pads and suture models enhance the learning opportunities build confidence and enhance surgical techniques and skills. Delegates will get 10 CPD points for completing this course.

This is not just any minor surgery update course this is the update course which presents the most recent evidence guidance and examples from recent medicolegal cases to advise warn and encourage GPs and GPwSIs in minor surgery towards necessary appropriate safe skilled and fun skin surgery in general practice. We have a programme for you that is suitable for education appraisal accreditation and revalidation with certificates for CPD and which also features the Direct Observations of Procedural Skills (DOPS) Assessment (required by NHS England for all GPs already practising and looking to re-accredit to continue to practise minor surgery in London - unless you perform more than 100 minor surgery procedures per year. DOPS is not a specific requirement outside of London but it is recommended by NHS England.) Running since 2011 with the publication of the Department of Health guidance for competencies for GPs who carry out skin surgery this year?s focus is on anticipating and minimising the unavoidable risks in skin minor surgery.
