A recently published paper suggests over 135,000 cases of cancer per year are attributed to lifestyle. Of these 40% are related to smoking, and a further 14% to being overweight or obese. GPs and their nursing colleagues could have a significant part to play in addressing this.

Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) is a governmental, not-for-profit research service that has provided anonymised primary care records for public health research since 1988. This collaboration between CPRD and RCGP started in 2015 to meet the information needs for GPs to carry out quality improvement. A growing number of practices are contributing anonymised data to CPRD.
