Safeguarding special interest group

The RCGP safeguarding special interest group aims to bring together GPs and College members, who are passionate about safeguarding within the field of general practice.

Our aim

By fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and professional development, the group aims to:

  • Provide a platform for GPs interested in safeguarding to share best practices, innovations, and insights specific to safeguarding in general practice.
  • Support members in building skills in safeguarding in general practice – whether you are a GP trainee wanting to learn more about safeguarding or an experienced GP practice safeguarding lead wanting to develop your practice and also share your experience.
  • Be a supportive community of practice across the four UK nations in what can be a rewarding, but challenging, area of general practice.

Current work

As a newly established group, we are in the process of developing the group, understanding the needs of the members and how the group can be best utilised. We invite members to contribute their ideas and expertise to shape the group's initiatives. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us.

The Safeguarding SIG is led by experienced safeguarding GPs dedicated to promoting safeguarding within general practice. The group's members bring a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise, ensuring that the group remains a valuable resource for all involved.

Group outputs

Our planned activities include:

  • Voice of general practice safeguarding: supporting the RCGP safeguarding representatives in their work by providing a valuable voice of general practice safeguarding.
  • Receiving updates about safeguarding work happening nationally, such as any new legislation or policy impacting safeguarding in general practice
  • Networking Opportunities: Facilitating connections among members to share experiences, resources and support professional development.
  • Resource Development: Contribution to the development of resources as and when needed.
