Non commissioned practice SIG

Purpose of the Group

The Non Commissioned Practice GP Special Interest Group (SIG) exists to support, connect and represent members delivering care outside standard NHS commissioning frameworks. This includes clinical work within independent/private practice, charitable and third sector services, and military settings.

The group provides a platform for peer support, education, discussion of governance and professional identity, and promotes high standards of care within these evolving models of general practice.

Core Aims of the Group

The group’s core aims are to:

  • Through shared learning, peer support, and practical guidance, the network aims to strengthen standards, reduce professional isolation, and champion the vital contribution of members delivering patient-centred care in diverse settings.
  • Create a dedicated online community where members can share challenges, questions and resources.
  • Support professional identity and representation by contributing, where appropriate, to RCGP policy, training and events to help ensure inclusive support for GPs working outside traditional NHS structures

Current work

As a newly established group, we are in the early stages of developing a comprehensive work plan. We are looking for members who wish to share their insights, experiences, and expertise to help shape the group’s direction. If you have ideas or are keen to get involved, please reach out to us.

Connect

Any RCGP member working outside traditional NHS commissioning structures—whether wholly or as part of a portfolio career—is welcome to join the group.

Members can get involved by:

  • Joining the members’ community to connect with peers
  • Participating in online and in person events
  • Contributing case studies, experience or ideas for future SIG activities

The SIG aims to be an inclusive, accessible community for GPs working across diverse non commissioned roles.
