About the group

The Non Commissioned Practice GP Special Interest Group (SIG) serves as a dedicated professional network for GPs working within independent or private practice, charitable and third-sector services, and military settings.

Operating outside traditional NHS frameworks can often lead to professional isolation. This group provides a vital platform for peer support, shared learning, and education, with a strong focus on navigating the unique clinical governance challenges and professional identity issues faced by non commissioned doctors.

Our core objectives are to:

  • Strengthen standards and reduce isolation by providing practical guidance and championing the vital contribution of members delivering patient-centred care across diverse settings.
  • Facilitate peer discussion regarding clinical governance, regulatory requirements, and professional identity.
  • Build a dedicated online community where members can securely share challenges, questions, and resources.
  • Drive professional representation by contributing to RCGP policy, training, and events, ensuring inclusive support for the sector.

Current activities

As a newly established group, we are currently developing a comprehensive plan to shape our future initiatives.

We are actively looking for RCGP members to share their insights, experiences, and expertise to help define our direction.

If you work outside traditional NHS commissioning structures, whether wholly or as part of a portfolio career, we would love to hear from you.
