Learn and Connect: 6-8 week baby check

The Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) 6–8 week check, is a vital head-to-toe assessment designed to identify congenital abnormalities that may not have been evident at birth or may have developed since. This examination focuses on key areas including the eyes (screening for cataracts and other issues), heart (listening for murmurs and assessing function), hips (checking for developmental dysplasia), and testes in male infants (ensuring descent into the scrotum). It also includes a general evaluation of the baby's growth, development, and overall health. Early detection during this check is crucial, as it enables timely referral and intervention, potentially preventing long-term complications.
