About us
Welcome from the South East Thames Faculty. We support over 2,000 members, Fellows, Associates and GP registrars in Kent and East Sussex as well as the outer fringes of South East London. The Faculty provides a number of educational and social events for our members and supports student prizes for both BSMS and KMMS.
Get involved
The South East Thames Faculty Board are a dedicated group of volunteers who have been elected by members to represent and support local interests. Find out which Board roles are currently available in your Faculty.
Our diverse group holds four board meetings a year to discuss a range of topics surrounding general practice and what further support could be offered to GPs at all stages of their career. These are either held online via Zoom. One of the aims of our meetings is to gain grassroots views on issues of motions to present to the national RCGP Council.
You are welcome to attend these board meetings as an observer, or join the board yourself through our annual elections process. Just get in touch sethames@rcgp.org.uk if you would like to attend.

This SCA preparation course is designed to help ST3s who are preparing to sit their SCA examination. The day will involve our lead facilitator showing you how to structure and manage your consultations to give you the best possible chance of success in the SCA exam.

AKT Preparation Course
This one-day interactive course has been designed for those planning to take the AKT component of the MRCGP. It will assist with your exam preparation and revision for the MRCGP AKT examination, focusing on high yield and difficult curriculum topics, including the topics trainees often forget to include in their revision and help with your exam technique.

Each year we recognise outstanding members working in our faculty. We have annual prizes to support our members, and also a range of Recognition Awards which we present at our annual celebration evening. Awards
1. Kent and Medway Medical School Student Prize Award
We provide three prizes each year awarded for the best pieces of creative work by Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) students (University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University).
Prizes are awarded to the three students with the best pieces of creative work inspired by a different title each year. The submissions may include a variety of creative methods.
The prize fund is awarded as follows:
- Gold Prize - £250 (best submission)
- Silver Prize - £150 (second best submission)
- Bronze Prize - £100 (third best submission)
2. Brighton and Sussex Medical Student Prize Award (run jointly with South West Thames Faculty)
South East Thames and South West Thames Faculties annually sponsor a competition whereby the BSMS tutors invite their top twenty students to submit a reflection, giving their thoughts of general practice or another question. The tutors short list the entries and then invite the two faculties to agree the awards.
- 1st Prize: £200
- 2nd Prize: £100
- 3rd Prize: £50
RCGP Fellowship
The Faculty actively encourages its members of five years plus standing to consider putting themselves forward for RCGP Fellowship - our highest level of membership. This prestigious honour reflects excellence and acknowledges your significant contribution to the field of general practice.
We will be pleased to offer informal advice to any member who wishes to propose a colleague for this honour. Guidance on eligibility and the process of nomination can be found on the RCGP website. For more information view the Fellowship page.
Meet your faculty
Your faculty board has been elected by members to represent and support local interests. We are a friendly group made up of a range of careers stages and backgrounds. Through this mixed experience we bring everyone together so that a broad range of voices is represented.
