South East Thames Faculty

Welcome from South East Thames Faculty

We support over 1,960 members, Fellows, Associates and Associates in Training in Kent and East Sussex as well as the outer fringes of South East London. The Faculty provides a number of educational and social events for our members as well as a First5 travel bursary to the RCGP Annual Conference, prizes to AiTs and BSMS student prizes. The Faculty can also award "seed corn" research funding up to £1,500.

Get involved

The Faculty Board meets four times a year at the Somerfield Hospital in Maidstone. The next meeting will be held on 13 September. Being a part of our Faculty gives members the chance to contribute to shaping the future of general practice and having input into RCGP Council. All local members are welcome to attend Board meetings and take part in the discussions. If you would like to attend, please contact us at for more information.

Upcoming events

We run a number of educational courses and a few social/networking events throughout the year. Many of these contribute to CPD and professional development and some are either free to all or have reduced rates for AiTs.

Patient Data Choices: an upholding event

This free half day event is organised by the Faculty in conjunction with RCGP's Clinical Innovation and Research Centre (CIRC) and will be held in Brighton on the afternoon of 18 September.

The event will provide an overview of the National Data Opt-out, and when and how it is applied. The workshop aims to benefit the whole GP team, particularly practice managers, Caldicott Guardians and/or anyone who is responsible for information governance within their practice. It will also be a useful introduction to the National Data Opt-put in the context of general practice.

Research and Development

Research Funding

We are pleased to offer 'seed corn' research funding. Up to £1500 will be awarded annually for pre-protocol, scoping or pilot work. Please contact us for more information.

The Faculty is keen to develop research interest groups and will provide some financial support for meeting co-ordination. To establish a research interest group in your locality please submit a proposal outlining the aims, potential members and a programme of activities for the first year.
