The North Scotland Faculty supports over 380 members, Fellows, Associates and Associates in Training in the Highlands and Western Isles.
In addition to the support provided to members, the faculty managed the Highland Schools Medical Mentor Scheme (HSMMS), established in 1998 to help Highland school pupils understand and prepare for a career in medicine. This Scheme has now been absorbed into the NHS Highland Doctors at Work scheme. Application for this is open to pupils in S5 and S6 who are actively considering a career in Medicine. It is run in June and September each year and application is via School Guidance teachers.
We rely on members to play an active role locally, promoting the College aims and objectives. It is essential to raise and maintain awareness of demographic issues and needs of GPs and patients alike, and develop initiatives to support these. If you would like to find out more about becoming involved with the faculty we would be delighted to hear from you.
The next Faculty Board meeting will take place on Thursday 2 June 2016. All members are invited to attend board meetings. If you want to discuss any item covered or want an item to be considered at a future meeting please contact us.
Details of forthcoming North Scotland Faculty meetings, social events and educational courses can be accessed via the Upcoming Events box on the right.

Highland Schools Medical Mentor Scheme (HSMMS)
The HSMMS, facilitated by us and supported by both Consultants and General Practitioners throughout the Highlands.
Mentors are volunteers, rewarded by a sense of achievement in helping the next generation make the most appropriate decision about a career in medicine.

New GPs in Scotland
An innovative website has been launched for Scotland's GPs. The website is intended to provide support for recently qualified GPs in Scotland but is free for anyone to use. The website brings together appropriate information from a host of relevant organisations including RCGP. A combination of innovative technology and a team of volunteer editors means that material is regularly updated and relevant to GPs, including sections with local content, events, jobs and clinical tools. The website can be viewed at www.newgpscotland.com.
