About us

East Scotland Faculty supports over 540 members, Fellows, Associates and Associates in Training in Tayside and North Fife.

As well as a range of CPD initiatives, we run a very successful Doctors Group, named the Norma Smith Doctors Group (formerly Women Doctors Group) which meets monthly on a Wednesday evening. The group is open to all doctors in our Faculty area.

Getting Involved

We rely on members to play an active role locally, promoting the College aims and objectives. It is essential to raise and maintain awareness of demographic issues and needs of GPs and patients alike, and develop initiatives to support these. If you would like to find out more about becoming involved with the faculty we would be delighted to hear from you.

Faculty News

Faculty Board meetings take place in the Mackenzie Building, Dundee at 19:30. The next meeting of Faculty Board will take place on Tuesday 7 June 2017.

All members are invited to attend board meetings. If you would like to discuss any item covered or would like an item to be considered at a future meeting, please contact us.

  • The John Lawson Award to a final year student for excellence in general practice
  • 4th Year Merit Award to a student for excellence in 4th year GP attachment
  • Poster Award awarded to a GP Registrar for submitting and presenting a poster relevant to their own experience in general practice

Annual Lecture

The John Lawson Lecture is held annually and highlights a current topic or interest. This year's lecture took place on Tuesday 21 June 2016, Malmaison, Dundee.  Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Gregor Smith talked about Realistic Medicine following the first annual report by the Chief Medical Officer.  This was well attended by local members and provoked a lot of discussion in the group present.

Annual General Meeting

We combine our AGM with our Annual dinner into a social event to encourage members to get together.  The 2016 AGM took place at the Invercarse Hotel, Dundee on Thursday 15 September 2016.  This was followed by a short local awards ceremony.  The 2017 AGM and Annual Dinner will take place on Tuesday 26 September 2017, venue TBC.
