iMAP...The route to RCGP membership for practicing GPs
What is iMAP?
Interim Membership by
Assessment of Performance (iMAP) provides an opportunity for
established GPs to become members of the Royal College of General
Practitioners (RCGP). It is designed to evaluate the performance of
individual GPs and is accessible to GPs with a wide variety of work
patterns.
Why
membership makes sense!
If
you are an established GP but have not previously considered
joining the Royal College of General Practitioners there are now
some very valid reasons for considering iMAP as a worthwhile
option………
Interim Membership by Assessment of Performance (iMAP): What it
means for you:
· iMAP will allow you to build on your current career plan and
add to your training portfolio
· iMAP forms part of your ‘Continuous Professional
Development’ helping with appraisal and ultimately
revalidation.
· iMAP will gain credit points in the revalidation process
Attaining iMAP
iMAP is easily attainable for any GP providing a good standard
of care to their patients. Many GPs will already be doing what is
required by iMAP and they will simply need to document this
information in the format required.
GPs participating in iMAP
compile a portfolio documenting their day to day practice, when
that is accepted by assessors, they are invited to attend an oral
assessment. Gaining membership through iMAP confers the MRCGP and
is comparable to any other route to membership.
The RCGP Northern Ireland
and NIMDTA are working collaboratively to facilitate those GPs who
wish to participate in the iMAP programme. It is planned to set up
a local group to work with an iMAP advisor to help and support
those GPs who are interested.
If you are a practising GP in Northern Ireland and are
interested in attaining iMAP please contact us.
