The RCGP is seeking applications for the role of Workplace Based Assessment (WPBA) Core Group member. The terms of reference for the group and person specification for this role are linked at the bottom of this page.

Reports to

WPBA Clinical Lead

Term of office

Three years, with a review by WPBA Clinical Lead at one year, and reappointment for a second three year term if mutually agreed.

Overall purpose

The WPBA Core Group is responsible for the ongoing strategic development, delivery and quality control of the MRCGP WPBA. Individual members within the group have some specific areas of responsibility, but also the flexibility to work across the group to cover all areas of the WPBA.

The group’s current key areas of work, and the knowledge they require, are detailed below but may change in response to the rapidly changing agendas in postgraduate medical education.

  1. Carrying out assessment trials with trainees and producing and publishing formal research on the results.
  2. Developing educational resources to improve the studying of WPBAs.
  3. Communicating and updating stakeholder groups, primarily trainees and trainers, on assessment requirements and standards.
  4. Evaluating the assessment package to ensure that they are fair, reliable, and valid and ensuring that any differential attainment found has resources invested to minimise it.
  5. Developing the portfolio to improve its functionality for all users.
  6. To ensure WPBA remains current and adapts to the changing face of general practice and in combination with the others modules covers all aspects of the GP curriculum.

Remuneration

The agreed RCGP per diem rate will be paid for each session (the rate is reviewed annually – currently £221.02 per 4 hour session).
