Time commitment and remuneration

Quarterly meetings (90 minutes) to be held virtually, with pre-reading and some contribution to email discussion between meetings.

These are voluntary roles.

Funded project work may be commissioned separately.

Background

The RCGP Professional Standards Working Group is being established following a review of the College’s (post CCT) professional standards function and the identification of the need for a working group to provide support and expertise on all aspects of this work.

The working group will have a UK-wide focus and cover the following topics:

  • Post-CCT professional development ‘pathways’
  • Annual medical appraisal and revalidation
  • Extended and specialised GP practice
  • Leadership and quality
  • Fitness to practise, performance and remediation
  • Expected training (e.g. Safeguarding and BLS)
  • Performers list requirements
  • Return to practice requirements
  • Professional capabilities (in areas to be defined)
  • Credentialing and frameworks for other members of the primary care team

The roles

GP with Extended Role

We are seeking an expert advisor to support the working group’s activities, particularly in relation to GPs with extended scopes of practice.

About the candidate

The ideal candidate will be:

  • an RCGP member or fellow in good standing with the College and the GMC
  • currently in clinical practice
  • a GP with an extended scope of practice (any discipline), with an interest in supporting GPs to demonstrate competence in their extended role
  • well networked, knowledgeable about a range of extended roles, and able to draw on the expertise of colleagues
  • knowledgeable of the RCGP extended roles framework, as well as the annual (full scope of practice) medical appraisal process
  • committed to supporting GPs to improve the quality of their care, with an interest in formative and developmental processes.

Some experience of contributing to committees is desirable.

GP leadership expert

We are seeking an expert advisor to support the working group’s activities, particularly in relation to leadership in primary care.

About the candidate

The ideal candidate will be:

  • an RCGP member or fellow in good standing with the College and the GMC
  • currently in clinical practice
  • an experienced leader in primary care, with knowledge of the various leadership opportunities available to GPs
  • well networked, and able to draw on the expertise of colleagues
  • knowledgeable of the RCGP extended roles framework
  • committed to supporting GPs to improve the quality of their care, with an interest in formative and developmental processes.

Some experience of contributing to committees is desirable.

GP with primary care Responsible Officer

We are seeking an expert advisor to support the working group’s activities, particularly in relation to clinical governance, mandatory/expected training, fitness to practise and remediation processes.

About the candidate

The ideal candidate will be:

  • an RCGP member or fellow in good standing with the College and the GMC
  • currently in clinical practice, or have demitted clinical practice not less than two years’ previously
  • a primary care responsible officer, ideally in an NHS setting
  • well networked, and able to draw on the expertise of colleagues
  • knowledgeable of processes pertaining to clinical governance, mandatory/expected training, fitness to practise and remediation processes
  • committed to supporting GPs to improve the quality of their care, with an interest in formative and developmental processes.

Some experience of contributing to committees is desirable.
