JIC Exchange Team Member

The RCGP Junior International Committee was formed in April 2009. It helps GP trainees and First5 GPs get involved in educational international activities related to primary care and works with the Associates in Training Committee and First5 network. The JIC represents the UK in the European Vasco da Gama Movement (VdGM)

The exchange team co-ordinates the exchange schemes in the UK as part of the Vasco da Gama movement and wider WONCA Young Doctors Movements and includes facilitating Hippokrates, Family Medicine 360 and conference exchanges. The Exchange Programme has been operational for over 16 years and aims “to encourage exchange and mobility among young doctors in the course of their professional formation as General Practitioners; thus providing a broader perspective to the concepts of Family Medicine at both professional and personal levels”. You can find out more about these programs here.

As a member of the exchange team, you will work with the National Exchange Lead to co-ordinate both European GPs and GP trainees coming to the UK as well as those going out to Europe from the UK as part of the Hippokrates, FM360 and conference exchange schemes. You will liaise not only with other exchange team members, but also National and Regional Exchange Co-ordinators in other countries/regions. More recently, we have also been involved in looking at the logistics and benefits of arranging virtual exchanges and will be hoping to incorporate these into our work going forwards. This is a demanding yet rewarding role requiring strong skills in organisation, communication and problem-solving.

We are looking for an individual who will have the inspiration to help move the scheme further forward in the UK.

This is a particularly exciting time for the JIC as in 2022 the WONCA Europe conference will be held in London and we have the privilege of being involved in the organisation of the VdGM pre-conference and conference exchange. This will be a brilliant international networking opportunity, and will allow the successful candidate to gain skills in events planning and management.

The standard term of office is 3 years. RCGP members at any stage of GP training or within 5 years of CCT are invited to apply for this role. All roles on the JIC are undertaken on a voluntary basis; however, a subsidy towards travel to approved UK JIC related events and conference fees may be offered, subject to budget availability and RCGP Travel and Expense Policy requirements.

To apply please send a motivational letter and an up-to-date CV to exchangejic@rcgp.org.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 31st August 2021. Please note that successfully shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 20 minute Skype interview. For further information please contact the Exchange Lead, Natascha Glover on the above email address.
