RCGP Wales Patient Group

The RCGP Wales Patient Group is an active and important part of the Royal College of General Practitioners in Wales, highlighting patient views and interests.

Membership comprises of seven lay members and three GP members, working together to promote patient involvement within primary care in particular:

  • Developing ideas and leading activities that encourage GPs to work in effective partnership with patients and the public
  • Influencing ideas and leading activities in Wales that impact on the quality of patient care
  • Encouraging patient involvement by supporting GP practices with the formation of new patient groups

Group members attend Patient Group meetings, actively focusing on specific outputs and champion the use of Patient Groups in General Practice. They do this by contributing to projects with partners and stakeholders and to the College's interaction with Welsh Government. This includes regularly responding to consultations and highlighting the patient voice in the media, where appropriate.
The Patient Group is currently working on a range of project based work including:

  • Developing a funding bid to assist GP members in Wales who would like support in establishing Patient Participation Groups in their own practices
  • Judging the annual, patient nominated RCGP Wales GP of the Year and Practice Team of the Year awards
  • Working in partnership with Cardiff University to analyse data from the patient nominated GP of the Year Award 2016 to identify what patients value in their GPs.
