International and Overseas Network

On 23 March 2017 the RCGP launched the RCGP Global Network, formerly known as International and Overseas Network (ION). The aim of our network is to facilitate knowledge exchange, international collaboration and to better understand and support the specific needs of the RCGPs global members. An action plan to build on the successful Global Network launch is being developed with the support of the Global Network members.

MRCGP[INT] accreditation is awarded by the RCGP to postgraduate-level exit assessments which are equivalent in academic rigor to our UK licensing exam, MRCGP, but at the same time meet the local requirements for family medicine / general practice in the country or region where it is administered. Thus, the RCGP is the accrediting body, but it is the local Host Examining Body who runs their residence / structured training programme and/or assessment. Those trainees who pass the accredited assessment become entitled to join the RCGP as International Members.

MRCGP[INT] accredited assessment is specific for the country or region where it is offered because it is designed to test the skills, knowledge and competencies of family doctors which are relevant for the country or region in which doctors practise: local epidemiology and disease profile, structure and guidelines of local healthcare systems, cultural and religious aspects of doctor-patient interaction, etc. you can find out where to pass MRCGP[INT] accredited examination.

Overseas members

The RCGP recognises the important contribution our members make to the promotion and development of family medicine when working overseas. We also understand that there is still great value for you to engage with the College, ensuring that you are informed and updated of policy or clinical updates.

RCGP’s support does not end when you leave the UK, and we are eager to offer you advice and guidance on issues relevant to you.

We understand that Revalidation and its requirements are clearly a priority for our overseas members, and we have developed bespoke guidance offering advice on Revalidation and the Performers list when working overseas. RCGP is committed to making the Revalidation process easier for our Overseas members, and recognises the crucial work many of our member are doing internationally. We will continually work with our colleagues at the GMC, COGPED and Health Education England to ensure that the process of Revalidation and returning to work in the UK is as easy as possible.
