Welcome from Cumbria Faculty

We support over 370 members, Fellows, Associates and Associates in Training in the east, south and west Cumbria region. As well as a range of CPD initiatives, we also support very active self-directed learning groups all over the region, encouraging networking among GPs spread over geographically challenging areas. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain and provide support to GPs who are potentially professionally isolated. We also support regular meetings for the local sessional GP and First5 groups in north and south Cumbria.  

Get involved

Appreciating both work-related time pressures and our region's 'travelling issues' (roads and weather) we have opened up our board meetings which can now be accessed by webinar from anywhere in the region. We also regularly have representation from local groups such as LMC, CCGs and our on-call providers CHoC, but would love to have more members voice their opinions in this forum.

We run many education courses and social/networking events throughout the year. Many of these contribute to CPD and professional development.

All members are invited to attend board meetings as an observer. If you would like to discuss any item covered or would like an item to be considered at a future meeting, please contact us.

Please come along and get involved in local Faculty activities. Your opinions matter to us and with all the changes going on in general practice at present, the Faculty can help you.

E Bulletin. To reduce the amount of emails which keep bouncing in to your In boxes, the College has created an e bulletin for Faculties to send out periodically, which will include links and information in one email. We hope you will read this and give us your feedback.

Faculty Events

The Faculty has a strong commitment to supporting continuous professional development and offers a comprehensive programme of events, including a range of workshops and seminars on core topics such as Ophthalmology and Womens Health.

Faculty Initiatives


The Cumbria Faculty has a very active Fellowship Committee who work towards nominating deserving Cumbria Faculty members through fellowship. Are you a member of five years long standing?  Are you interested in being nominated for Fellowship?  Do you have a colleague you would like to support through nomination? Education Programme

The Cumbria Faculty has an active education programme and we are in the process of organising events for the coming year. If you are a GP with an interest in education, or have ideas on what topics you would like to see on our events, please get in touch with us. We are also looking for GPs with special interests who would like to get involved with running our events, so if this is you,  and you would like to take an active role in providing good quality education for Cumbria GPs  please contact us on 0203 188 7718 / 7719 or email We would love to hear from you. 

Social Events

In addition to our education programme, we also have a well established social calendar to encourage members to get together. This  includes our Annual Branston Lecture  which we run each year with a guest speaker  and Dinner.  This event is free to all Cumbria Members  with a small fee for quests.
