Emergency preparedness

GPs and practice teams

You can access the latest advice at Public Health England and Health Protection Scotland.

The College continues to monitor the situation closely. RCGP Honorary Secretary Jonathan Leach has convened a group, including representatives from the BMA and Royal College of Nursing, to determine how Covid-19 will impact on general practice and look at developing practical resources to support GPs and their teams to manage the emerging situation.

We are issuing regular updates and our Chair, Professor Martin Marshall and Officers are giving regular media interviews.

Over the past week, Professor Marshall has appeared on BBC Breakfast, the News Channel, Sky News, ITV tonight, BBC Radio 5 Live, Good Morning Britain and BBC World Service. You can read our latest statement on COVID-19.

If your practice has experienced any difficulties in implementing the current guidance or protocols, please let us know so we can provide feedback to the relevant authorities – contact Chair-RCGP@rcgp.org.uk

Patients

The advice for patients is clear:

Anyone who thinks they might have Covid-19 SHOULD NOT attend their GP practice or hospital emergency departments but SHOULD call NHS 111 and follow instructions.

Please try not to be alarmed – if you are ill, it is still more likely that you will have flu or the common cold.
