Following the publication of Fit for the Future: a vision for general practice [PDF] we are publishing a suite of roadmaps and information setting out how this vision can be realised, based on the enablers we identified.

For digital transformation to work for general practice, we need to get the basics right first – rolling IT infrastructure and software upgrades for all practices so that GP IT is never out of date. GPs and their teams need to be trained and supported in adopting new and effective technologies into their practice, and evaluation and regulatory frameworks must keep pace with rapidly evolving digital technology.

We need an expanded and better supported workforce to meet our vision for 2030. This includes effective workforce planning, enhanced education and training in general practice, increased efforts for recruitment and returning staff, and significant efforts to improve the workload and wellbeing for whole general practice team.
Research and Innovation Roadmap
We need an expansion of the know how and capacity of general practice to carry out research and innovation to support the future delivery of high-quality patient care.
Premises
We need upgraded and purpose-built surgery premises that can accommodate the expansion of the practice team and the co-location of a wider range of clinical and non-clinical services, that are properly equipped to enable patients to access the best possible care.
Investment
General practice needs proper resourcing to deliver high-quality care. 11% of the NHS budget must be spent on front line general practice.
