These resources were developed as part of the DeStress project, a 2.5 year interdisciplinary research project on supporting mental health in low-income communities. The course was developed as a collaboration between low-income communities, health professionals, Exeter University, Plymouth University and City University.

Supporting patients experiencing poverty-related mental distress

These materials aim to support GPs working with low-income patients experiencing mental distress that is largely psychosocial in nature. View more

The guidance offered highlights the importance of a therapeutic alliance with patients, and the need for GPs to have confidence to know when to act as ‘supporters’ rather than ‘fixers’.
