Exam cancellations and refunds

Cancelling within the application period

If you've applied to sit either the AKT or CSA, you can cancel within the application period published on the RCGP website.

Fees paid will normally be held in credit against a future application to sit the same examination. If you don't expect to sit the examination on a subsequent occasion, you can ask to have your fee refunded.

Cancelling after the application period

If you cancel your application after the application window has closed or fail to turn up on the day, you will normally forfeit your examination fee.

If circumstances beyond your control prevented you from attending the examination, or obliged you to cancel your appointment after the closing date for applications, you may apply for your fee to be held in credit against a future application or refunded. Evidence of your circumstances will be required in writing referenced with your name and GMC number.

If you wish to withdraw from a scheduled exam booking, you must do so in writing. Contact us by email at:

You must include your name and GMC number, indicate which exam you wish to withdraw from and giving your reason for doing so.
