Later Career & Retired Members - From General Practice to Retirement

The RCGP SYNT retired members (and those nearing retirement) are meeting again. Retirement presents an opportunity not only for shedding or retaining roles, but also for reclaiming and discovering others. How does this affect our sense of identity? Come and explore this topic with Tom Heyes and others. It is a chance to hear others’ views, network, have a healthy lunch and get out to have a walk in beautiful surroundings. Tom Heye's is a (almost fully) retired GP who has experienced most forms of general practice that exist in his surrounding areas as well as spending time working in Leeds PCT. Tom's current and recent volunteer roles include Medical Director for Special Olympics Summer Games Sheffield 2017; hockey coach; homeless charity worker; Green party activist; monitoring and evaluation, project development and management for an international children’s charity. Tom will lead a discussion on volunteering for retired GP's, drawing on everyone’s experience and ideas and sharing some resources and distilled wisdom. Tom's objectives are to have an enjoyable conversation, and for participants to think about why we volunteer, some pitfalls to avoid, and how to make it work well and be sustainable.
