Timings for the Recorded Consultation Assessment

26 June 2020

I am pleased to now be able to share further clarity around timings for the RCA in August, and to confirm a further sitting of the RCA in November 2020.

Firstly, I can now confirm that results for those who are in the process of submitting recordings for the July RCA will be published on 15 and 23 July.

Results are being released in two groups on these two dates in order to assist rapid ARCP processing of results and decisions.

The division of the two groups will be randomised and candidates will be informed in advance which date they will receive their individual results.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for candidates to request to be in a particular group for either date.

Dates for RCA applications and submission of consultation recordings have now been published on the RCGP website as follows:

  • Apply via website: 23-27 July 2020
  • Deadline for Submissions: 10 August 2020
  • Assessment Period: 12-26 August 2020
  • Results published: 3 September 2020

As with the July exam, trainees will be prioritised by the Deaneries and LETB GP Education Teams based on those trainees who are due to CCT by 28 February 2021.

Exceptional requests will need to be directed through your local Deanery or LETB GP Education Team.

As mentioned previously, for any trainee taking the RCA for the first time in August, this will not count as one of your four attempts at the exam.

Access to the FourteenFish training platform is currently being arranged for trainees who will be prioritised to take the RCA in August.

Please do not contact the exams department about this, as they are unable to grant individual access to the platform.

You will be contacted once access becomes available and this will be coordinated via FourteenFish and your Deanery or LETB GP Education Team.

In agreement with COGPED and other key stakeholders in the RCA Core Group, the next sitting of the RCA will be in mid-November 2020.

We are currently in discussions about exact timings, including when access to the FourteenFish platform will be provided, and will publish these on the College website and share them with you all once agreed.

It is our aim that there will be no need for any trainee prioritisation for this sitting.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding while we continue to work to ensure all trainees who need to sit the RCA are able to do so in time for their CCT due date.
