MRCGP Lay Advisers
The College wants to recruit two Lay Advisers for the Membership of the RCGP (MRCGP) Examination.
These appointments will be for three years in the first instance (subject to annual review), with the possibility of renewal at the end of the contract. Lay Advisers will commit to being available for 12 days p.a. plus attendance at the annual examiners’ training conference, which in 2017 takes place on 21 and 22 September.
Lay Advisers will receive a payment for services at £211 per day, £105.50 per half day (subject to regular review) and travel/subsistence costs in compliance with RCGP policy.
Role purpose
The MRCGP is the licensing examination for independent practice as a GP in the UK. The licensing standard has a direct impact on the quality of care delivered to patients and their carers by GPs. The delivery and development of the MRCGP is therefore a matter of public interest and is a principal function of the RCGP.
The MRCGP Lay Advisers will bring a patient’s and carer’s perspective to the development and delivery of the MRCGP. They will offer strategic advice from a non-institutional perspective, contribute to creative debates and enhance governance of MRCGP committees and working groups by scrutinising decisions/policy from an external lay perspective, acting as a ‘critical friend’ and challenging committees/working groups where necessary.
Lay advisers will contribute to the MRCGP quality assurance and standard setting processes. They will participate in complaints and appeal processes and may be asked to mentor new lay advisers.
