Joining the College

You can join the College for the first time either as an Associate or, if eligible, as a Member. Eligibilty is confirmed by successful completion of the College assessment or the interim Membership of Assessment of Performance. Once you have been a Member in good standing for a minimum of 5 years, you can look to become a Fellow of the College.

The College has a number of Associates who are either in general practice, or another medical specialty, who are not eligible for membership but wish to remain associated with the College. To qualify for Associateship, you must be a fully registered medical practitioner.

Doctors in specialty training for general practice can join the College as Associates in Training to take advantage of membership benefits whilst undertaking the College assessment.

Work is currently being undertaken to create a seamless ‘journey’ through associateship and membership and on to fellowship, with tools and benefits appropriate to each stage in your career. Further details of the requirements at each stage are below.
