RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse - Part
1
The Part 1 Course is endorsed by the NTA and is
multi-disciplinary. GPs, pharmacists, nurses, drug workers and
other healthcare professionals can complete the certificate.
There are two different courses for "The Certificate in the
Management of Drug Misuse Part 1"
- Generic
- Secure Environment
Delegates are required to complete only one course
whichever is appropriate for their working environment.
Part 1 (Generic) is ideal for practitioners
working at an advanced service level as part of a shared care
scheme, especially those intending to provide treatment to drug
users as part of a locally or nationally enhanced service
(L/NES).
Part 1 (Secure Environment)
RCGP, working with DH Prison Health have developed this course
in order to meet the workforce training requirements for those
professionals working within the Secure Environment.
In order to complete and receive the Part 1 Certificate -
Generic or the Part 1 Certificate - Secure Environment , you are
required to attend a Face to Face event and
complete the two e-learning modules:
- Harm Reduction
- Treatment Planning
These are accessible at http://www.elearning.rcgp.org.uk/
It is advisable to do the e-modules before attending the face to
face training day.
Please Note: Completion of the two e-learning
modules and attendance on a Face to Face training event must be
within an 18 month period in order to qualify for the Part 1
Certificate of Completion. If the period between the completion of
the e-learning modules and attendance on a Face to Face event is
longer than 18 months you will be asked to:
- Resit the e-learning modules if they were completed longer than
18 months before the attendance on a face to face
training event
or
- Attend another Face to Face training event if you
attended an event longer than 18 months before the completion of
the e-learning modules
Pharmacy Technicians must complete the RCGP
e-modules and attend a Face to Face event in order to be awarded
the RCGP Part 1 Certificate and meet the entry criteria for the
RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse
Part 2.
or
Complete the CPPE learning
program developed specifically for them and attend a Face to Face
event in order to meet the entry criteria for RCGP Certificate in
the Management of Drug Misuse Part 2.

E-Learning Modules
The e-learning modules can be accessed at http://www.elearning.rcgp.org.uk/ but
you must first ensure that you are registered with the RCGP.
If you have never registered with the
RCGP you should do
so by selecting the following link https://integra.rcgp.org.uk/membersarea/custom/register_precheck.asp
When you have successfully registered please visit
the Online Learning
Environment website and enter your registered email address and
password to access the emodules.
Under the title "Course
Categories" please select "Management of Drug
Misuse" in order to access the two online emodules
"Harm Reduction" and "Treatment
Planning"
Once you have completed the two modules you will be issued with
online certificates for each emodule. These can be printed off at
any time as evidence of your training.

Cost
The cost of the Part 1 National Face to Face Training Event is
£250 per person. The cost of a Local Face to Face training event is
a minimum of £150 per person, the cost of taking the certificate
and the reading materials. Costs may vary as some local
organisations may absorb the other costs involved in running the
course through sponsorship or funding grants.
