RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse
in Primary Care
RCGP Substance Misuse and Associated
Health offers two different certificate level training
packages.
Part 1 of the RCGP Certificate
in the Management of Drug Misuse
(previously known as the ‘Foundation’ course) was launched at the
9th National Conference ‘Management of Drug Users in Primary Care’
on May 20th 2004 in Cardiff.
Part 1 is now multi-disciplinary and is ideal
for practitioners working at a generalist level, as part of a
shared care scheme, especially those intending to provide treatment
to drug users as part of a locally or nationally enhanced service
(L/NES). This course is mapped to the Drug and Alcohol
National Occupational Standards (DANOS) and will be delivered in
two stages.
Part 2 is a continuation of the existing
certificate and is aimed at those practitioners wishing to become
GPs with a Special Clinical Interest or a Practitioner with Special
Interest. There will be an expectation that candidates will have
completed the Part One certificate or equivalent training
(recognised by the RCGP or sister organisations), or can
demonstrate that they already have the generalist
competencies.
The application process is now open. Closing date for applications
is Thursday 1 December 2011. The course will start in
February 2012.
More information on the
Part 2 Certificate for both new and existing
candidates is available.
