Research
into use of electronic communications using British Telecom’s
prestel. Fifty training practices were given a
prestel link and acted as a test group for pilot studies into
reporting of adverse drug reactions, the poisons register and
morbidity and current research abstracts.
[Prestel was a dial-up service using a modem and a modified
television set to view pages of text (and some pictures) rather
like today's Teletext. However, Prestel was an interactive service,
and was in essence an early form of Internet/ e-mail.]
