The six hundred members of the six faculties in Australia achieved their aim in creating an autonomous Australian College of General Practitioners."The sense of sadness is mitigated by the knowledge that a firm and affectionate bond exists between the mother and daughter colleges, and that our action has been in the best interests of general practice and medicine generally".

"Owing to the initiative of Dr E R Gibbons, the sole remaining member of the Uganda faculty still practising there, the funds of the faculty were invested in a lion skin which was brought back personally by his daughters for presentation to the College. This now adorns a wale in 14 Princes Gate as a lasting memorial to the Uganda Faculty".

Visiting Medical Students from Other Countries Working PartyAt the 1978 AGM Midland faculty resolution "urged the College to take the initiative in setting up a joint meeting with representatives of the BMA, DHSS, British Council, AUDGP, to consider setting up a clearing house to facilitate overseas medical students seeing British General Practice and British Medical Students seeking General Practice in other Countries. With the exception of the AUDGP the bodies were unenthusiastic, in spite of this the College set up a working party.

Family Medicine Residency Training Scheme in Pakistan was accredited, after a visit by Drs Iona Heath and Steve Bell, for sitting the MRCGP with provisos concerning the relevance and nature of the College's examination for Pakistani candidates.

Royal Colleges' International Forum established a result of conference of Royal Colleges on International Activities held on 13th March 1998. The group was initially chaired by Philip Evans [chairman of the RCGP International Committee], clerked at the RCGP and funded by the  British Trade and Industry Health Sector Group. [BFI]. Forum booklet published 2001.

Garth Manning appointed Medical Director of International Family Medicine Development Programme (IDP)

West Bank project - RCGP/Medical Aid for Palestinians [MAP] begin two year training project in family medicine in Bethlehem, Ramallah and Jenin.
