About
us
The Royal College of General Practitioners
(RCGP) is the largest royal medical college in the UK, with more
than 42,000 members in over 40 countries worldwide.
Trainee GPs cannot practise unsupervised in the NHS
until they have completed our MRCGP examination and certification
programme.
We aim to encourage and maintain the highest standards of
general medical practice and to act as the ‘voice’ of GPs in
discussions with key policy makers.
Committed to improving patient care, we strive to build stronger
relationships between patients and their doctors, and promote
excellence in primary healthcare. The RCGP also acts as a forum for
the discussion of key medical and health issues in primary
care.
The RCGP develops GP skills by assisting its members and other
qualified GPs with their continuing professional and personal
development through an extensive courses and events programme. We
publish the British Journal of General Practice, a prestigious
monthly international journal, as well as a newspaper for members,
the RCGP News, ten times yearly.
The RCGP is dedicated to promoting excellence in primary
healthcare internationally, and we work with colleagues abroad to
raise international standards through our successful International
Development Programme.
