The RCGP Leadership Programme

Future Cohorts
The RCGP Leadership Programme Better Leaders Better
Doctors is currently under review; in line with the
development of the College’s Leadership Strategy and other relevant
College initiatives such as First5, which will include some
mentoring support, commissioning and other developments.
As a result there is currently no recruitment for the 2012/2013
programme. Additional information about further
developments will be announced on the website in due
course.
Better Leaders, Better Doctors
The course offers you the chance to:
- develop the skills and behaviours associated with effective
commissioning and credible leadership
- be part of a community of people working and learning together
with support and challenge from a high calibre faculty
- think creatively about local and national challenges and about
opportunities for your own career path
- work out what to do next
- feel safe enough to reflect on your experiences and learn from
them
- have fun with others engaged in similar challenges
At this time of substantial change for GPs we offer the unique
experience of the RCGP Leadership Programme to help you navigate
the transitions ahead. The programme is well known for having a
strong track record for challenging and supporting GPs, developing
their ability to:
- Lead, persuade and challenge colleagues
- Work collaboratively
- Think strategically
- See the world through the eyes of others
- Identify and address critical issues
- Put in place processes that deliver
- Work actively in the interests of their communities
The programme is hosted by the RCGP and yet independent of them.
It is led by a team (including many GPs) whole heartedly supportive
of the generalist role who are also robust critical friends. This
means that we offer a degree of insight and challenge that is
unparalleled.
Who is the programme for?
The programme has proved useful to GPs who have taken on roles
such as Practice Based Commissioning leads, chairs or members of
PECs, clinical governance leads, examiners, GP trainers,
appraisers, GPwSIs, members of collaboratives, LMC members, and
those involved with GP education. It has also proved valuable to
those taking on new and emerging roles and to those who simply wish
to become better leaders and better doctors. Participants
will be selected based on a written application form and an
interview during which you will be required to reflect on a case
study or equivalent, in a group setting. We will look for
your ability to make the most of the programme and to contribute to
the learning of others.
