e-Learning
The RCGP partnered has developed an
e-GP e-Learning programme with e-Learning for Healthcare (DH)
which, in early 2010 launched a user-friendly module on
Leadership. The module is available to all NHS GPs, GP trainees and
RCGP GP Foundation members through the e-GP online resource

Regional e-Learning
From December 2009 to July 2010 the RCGP, working with the
Department of Health and the National Association for Primary Care,
rolled out a one-off set of meetings to encourage Clinical Leaders
in Primary Care to link up together for more effective service
development and quality improvement.
The NHS has launched a systems-wide approach to clinical
leadership which GPs can access
. All SHAs
in England now have a named Clinical Leadership Network lead. The
attendees have to be nominated but expenses are payable in most
areas if successful.
Many Deaneries now run courses to strengthen
clinical leadership for the NHS. One example presented at the RCGP
Conference in Glasgow in 2009 was run by NHS Education South
Central.
Many universities with health schools include
modules on leadership in their Masters programme – these can
sometimes be taken as a ‘standalone’ option. For example at Keele
University there is a 15 credit Masters module that runs all the
time and is called Leadership and Management in Healthcare. North
Western Deanery runs courses in conjunction with the University of
Central Lancashire.
National e-Learning
The Kings Fund and the Health Foundation have
both hosted leadership initiatives in recent years – these tend to
be for people playing national roles.
The BMJ has extended its provision to include
the
‘Clinical Leadership Programme’
with the
