Introduction
The Responsible Gambling Fund (RGF)
has awarded RCGP funding to develop a
training programme for GPs and other primary health care
professionals to identify, treat and manage gambling related harm
cases.
The outcomes of this programme will be to -
- Improve the lives of those affected by gambling related
harm through enabling GP and primary care staff to identify people
affected and provide support as well as provide early
interventions.
- Deepen understanding of the scale and breadth of gambling
related harm.
- Give a voice to individuals affected by gambling related
harm in the development of primary care interventions.
Content for the course will be
delivered through a combination of different routes to ensure
maximum learning flexibility. Workshops and e-learning will be
supported by web based resources such as tool kits, case studies
and fact sheets.
The content and materials for this
training programme is currently being developed by Dr Edward Burton
(clinical lead) and Trevor David (gambling lead).
The RCGP are aiming to release this
e-learning course by March 2012.
The RCGP will also be running three
