Principles of the Quality Practice Award

  • Practices required to self nominate.
  • The process involves team working, team development and reflective practice.
  • The award is criteria based.
  • The criteria should be clearly understood.
  • All criteria and statutory obligations must be met.
  • No practice should fail if it can meet the criteria.
  • Criteria for the QPA are reviewed annually and updated.
  • QPA is a UK wide award. However there may be occasional variations between the four nations for some specific criteria. The majority of criteria will remain universal.
  • QPA is based on the principle of peer review.
  • The visit team will consist of 4 assessors usually including a doctor, practice manager, nurse and a lay assessor.
  • Prior to the visit, it is expected that all the criteria have been met.
    1. confirm the accuracy of the application
    2. offer an educational experience to the whole practice
  • Recommendations for change and further development will be offered at the final feedback session with the practice and confirmed in writing within six weeks of the visit.
