Getting Involved with QPA - Becoming an Assessor
Would you be interested in becoming a QPA
Assessor? Perhaps your practice has just been awarded
QPA & you would like to be part of a team that recognizes
excellent patient care in General Practice? Or maybe you have
moved out of the medical profession or retired, but would like to
continue to be associated with the profession by contributing to
quality in General Practice?
As QPA grows, with more new Practices applying
and existing Practices seeking re-accreditation, new Assessors
are always welcome.
There are five types of Assessor:
- General Practitioner
- Practice Nurse
- Practice Manager
- Lay Assessor (usually a member of the general
public with a medical interest or people retired from the
medical profession)
- Lead Assessor (experienced Assessors who lead
the assessment team)
QPA Assessors are involved in assessing written evidence
and conducting practice visits. The first
visit (Word doc 27.5K) might be envisaged as a
daunting prospect. But as Sonia Hall found out, it
turned out to be a most enjoyable and rewarding day.
The RCGP holds an annual Assessor training day for those
thinking of becoming assessors and contributing to the QPA process.
Travel and (and if necessary) accommodation expenses are covered by
the college for the day long course.
If you are interested in becoming a QPA assessor please
complete and forward us a short CV and a
competency self assessment has to be submitted. GP
Assessors need to be RCGP members.
Please go to the News and Events page to check the next available
dates for assessor training in your area.
