Terms of Reference for the Professional Development Board

 

The Terms of Reference for the Professional Development Board are:

 

To be accountable to RCGP Council for:

 

  • Work with RCGP internal and external structures and other stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of a comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme which integrates with post qualification provision and supports recertification and relicensure.
  • Enhance and assure the quality of CPD for GPs to deliver optimal patient care through setting standards for GPs, primary care organisations, educators and educational providers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Postgraduate Training Board to facilitate adequate resources for CPD which will accommodate a range of learning styles and needs, including e-learning, events and publications and will support the RCGP curriculum as a framework for the RCGP CPD programme.
  • Work with RCGP local structures, Deaneries, Primary Care Organisations and Higher Education Institutes to develop local support and quality assurance mechanisms for CPD.
  • Work with academic leads for primary care in academic institutions to facilitate dissemination of research through CPD opportunities, including scientific meetings
  • Work with academic leads for primary care in academic institutions to develop the academic options of the CPD Scheme through accreditation of personal and workplace learning for GPs and their teams.
  • Approve appropriate methodology and assessment frameworks for quality assurance of GPwSIs.
  • Ensure provision of programmes of quality initiatives to support and develop individual GPs and their teams.
