Organisation promoting and supporting the teaching and practice of evidence based mental healthcare.

 

Clinical Evidence
Subscription required (but freely available to NHS staff) this BMJ resource provides a regularly updated guide to evidence about the effectiveness of care.

 

Clinical Summaries Service (CKS)
Source of clinical knowledge helping healthcare professionals and patients in managing common conditions seen in primary care

 

Cochrane Library
contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane, other systematic reviews and clinical trials

 

Department of Health
The Department provides strategic leadership to the NHS and social care organisations in England.

 

Database of Individual Patient Experiences (DIPEX)
Site where patients share experiences of treatments and conditions.

 

Doctors Net
Free resource for UK doctors providing news, education, medical resources and forum discussions.

 

European Union of General Practitioners (UEMO)
The organisation for GPs and specialists in family medicine in Europe. To promote the highest standard of training, practice and patient care within the field of general practice throughout Europe as well as to defend the role of general practitioners in the healthcare systems.

 

Health Technology Assessment Database
The HTA database contains information on healthcare technology assessments.

 

Map of Medicine
Produced in collaboration with NLH MoM provides an evidence-based approach to enable GPs to identify best practices for all major conditions.

 

Medicines and healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
Government agency responsible for ensuring medicines and medical devices are safe and effective.

 

Medline
US National Library of Medicine bibliographic database covering medicine and the health care system.

Merck Manual
Covers most disorders, describing symptoms and signs, etiology and epidemiology, prognosis and prophylaxis and treatment.

 

National Library for Health. Aims to be ‘the best, most trusted health related knowledge service in the world’. It comprises NHS funded services across the country and, a digital hub, plus commissioned information services and products. Need an Athens ID to access bibliographic resources, full text journal and local resources.

 

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
The body responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health. Has a searchable database of current and previous guidance. To learn about how NICE Clinical Guidelines are developed, click here.

 

National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
The NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) has been established by the Government to improve the evidence base for primary care practice. The NIHR operates Biomedical Research Centres – NHS-University partnerships located in London, Oxford, Cambridge, Liverpool and Newcastle.

 

National Research Developments (DH)
Holds information on the national health research strategy, and further policy developments.

 

Patient Voices

PubMed
Free Medline service provided by the National Library of Medicine. It includes over 17 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. PubMed also includes links to full text articles and other related resources.

 

Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN)
National clinical guidelines for Scotland.

 

UK Pubmed Central
A free version of Medline providing particular access to medical articles with a UK orientation.
